Monks Barn Custom Fairy Light Backdrop
Oakwood Events Blog PostWe like a challenge from time to time, and it's always good fun putting together a custom design for one of our lovely clients. One of our recent couples had fallen in love with the idea of a fairy light backdrop for their wedding at the Monks Barn in Hurley, but this was no ordinary fairy light backdrop.
What was wanted was a really dense wall of fairy lights behind the ceremony area, fixed at beam height and with an inverted "V" shape at the bottom, while working around the barn's fixed features. As a listed building, no nails or screws are allowed so the backdrop needed to be attached only to the barn's existing structure.
After some discussions with the bride and groom this is the design we settled on, with its dense section of lights in the middle to emphasise the ceremony and a less dense section either side to lead in to the middle while sneakily working around the protruding wooden boxed-in section on the rear wall. Bearing in mind the wall is 5m high and 8m wide, it was definitely calculator time to make that all line up properly!
To frame the view of the ceremony we also added an up-and-over fabric drape attached to one of the barn's beams along with a sparkly tiered crystal chandelier at the centre, directly above the area where the ceremony was due to take place.
If you know the Monks Barn you'll know that this room is also used as a dance floor for the party in the evening so the backdrop and chandelier did double duty for that too and must have looked spectacular behind the DJ. Both were of course dimmable, otherwise they'd have been far too bright for the evening!
