About Us

Oakwood Events Ltd is based near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire; we're a husband and wife team supplying beautiful wedding lighting to stunning venues across the South East. Technical Director Steve is responsible for design, installations and runs the workshop. Creative Director Sarah is responsible for client and venue relationships, running the office and social media.

We work primarily in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire, plus some select venues that are slightly further afield.

We're specialists, working full time designing and installing lighting for discerning clients. Our expertise is in barn lighting and we're renowned for our stylish designs, technically stunning outcomes, efficient approach and our ability to deliver large on-the-day installs with the minimum of fuss, as well as exercising the utmost discretion for private clients. We feel very privileged to work in so many beautiful venues as well as privately owned barns on prestigious family estates.

It's best to enquire with us as soon as possible as our spring and summer weekends in particular get booked up quickly. We work all year round and take bookings up to 18 months in advance.

Unfortunately we can't meet clients in person due to our tight scheduling; we're a husband and wife team delivering hundreds of weddings each year. We are delighted to discuss bookings via email and phone. When possible we attend wedding fayres in a select handful of our favourite venues.

Pricing

Yes. We are pleased to offer a 10% discount for events which are fund raising for registered charities.

It varies a lot as every canopy is custom and prices depend on height, access, size and design. Send us your venue, date and requirements for a quote.

Prices are specific to the venue, date and design. We quote for installed designs only and do not offer dry hire. Email us details of your event and if we're available we'll be pleased to send you options and pricing.

Yes, minimum orders typically vary from £500 to £800.

We quote fully inclusive of mileage, install and pack down; please include your venue details when enquiring.

We are sometimes able to offer a discretionary discount for multi-event hires, email us for details.

If your event is more than 8 weeks away we send a booking form asking for a 50% deposit to secure your date. The balance is payable 4 weeks before the event (an invoice is sent). If the event is less than 8 weeks away we send a single invoice for the full amount.

How we work

Yes. Send us details of your date, your venue, your style and your budget. If we're able to quote we'll send over ideas, pricing and designs for you to consider.

No, we price for fully installed designs rather than by unit / length.

No. We don't offer dry hire - all our lighting is installed by us for your event and removed afterwards.

If your venue has clear beams then we're pleased to suggest designs which may be suitable.

Send us your venue details and the picture you've seen - we'd be happy to advise if it, or something similar, could be achieved in your venue.

Large, overhead installations are a major operation - that's why they look so great. We have extensive experience working in barns, listed buildings, outdoor spaces and at height and we place a high value on the organisation and efficiency of our installations. The install team will usually be 1 to 2 people and you'll find us friendly, professional, smart and punctual. We work alongside venue and catering staff to minimise disruption caused by ladders and scaffolds, especially for on-the-day set ups.

Lighting Specifics

Our uplighting units are LED so the choice of colours is in the millions. However brighter colours are generally the most effective (you can't project darkness!) Some of the most popular and effective colours are blue, teal, cyan (turquoise), light blue, pink, purple, magenta (pinky purple), yellow, gold, orange, red, and green.

Yes, we have outdoor flood lights, uplights, fairy lights and festoon lights. We even have a stunning pair of UK weather safe chandeliers.

Warm white lights are similar in colour to normal household light bulbs and candle light, give a warm glow and cast flattering light for photos. Cool white is a more pure white colour for a crisp, chic look or winter wonderland styles. We use warm white lights by default so these are what you'll see in the majority of the photos on our web site. See this blog post for photos illustrating the difference.

We use LED festoons on white wire which makes them ideal for safe use in marquees, tipis, hedges, low down, etc.

All of our chandeliers, fairy light and festoon light canopies are installed on dimmers, as are most of our lantern canopies.

No - only Oakwood Events staff are permitted to use our ladders and scaffold towers. If we're booked to install lighting then we're very happy to quote in advance for hanging client supplied items while we're there, drop us an email with the details.
